Privacy Policy

Updated September 18, 2026. This policy covers BrowserTools at browsertools.ai. For privacy questions, contact contact@browsertools.ai.

Owner Workspace

The site owner’s publishing workspace uses an essential, HttpOnly session cookie for authenticated access. It expires after 30 minutes of inactivity or eight hours total. Owner credentials are stored as a password hash outside the public website directory. A bounded security log records sign-in and publishing event types and timestamps; temporary, keyed hashes of IP addresses support login rate limits. The public website reads only published Featured Tools and category-color settings. This workspace does not collect visitors’ saved tool inputs or provide access to their local files.

Browser Extension

The Chrome and Firefox developer extensions include an on-demand dock on the page where you click the extension icon. No all-sites access is requested. Local quick tools process text without uploading it; dock text stays in memory until you close it or navigate away. The extension does not capture page screenshots for glass effects, collect browsing history, or include analytics. Use the standalone workspace instead of an overlay for sensitive text, especially on websites you do not trust. Shortcuts, favorites, pins, recent tool IDs and dock appearance are saved in extension storage, separately from website settings. Library backups can be imported manually. The selection context menu and Use Selected Text action read text only when you request them; a selection sent to a workspace tab is held temporarily, accepted for five minutes, then removed when the workspace opens. Opening a full website tool makes a normal request to browsertools.ai, without attaching dock text. Export a backup before clearing or uninstalling the extension.

Files and Tool Inputs

Most conversion, editing and calculation features process your files and text on your device. Selecting a local file does not by itself upload it to BrowserTools. Features that retrieve remote content, look up live information or share with another device make network requests as described below.

Saved Work and Data Passport

Settings, favorites, pinned tools, named pin collections, recent tools, notes and drafts may be saved in this browser’s local storage. They remain until you remove them, reset the relevant tool or clear site data. Clearing data may permanently remove saved work. Export important projects or use Data Passport before switching browsers or computers.

Data Passport files and transfer links can contain saved personal information. Anyone who receives them may be able to read and import that information. BrowserTools does not operate a cloud backup account for these exports.

Local AI, OCR and Downloaded Models

AI image upscaling, background removal, speech transcription and optical character recognition run locally in your browser. When you start these features, the browser may download model files, language data or processing libraries from Hugging Face or library delivery services. These services receive standard connection information, such as your IP address and the model or file requested; these features do not send your selected image, recording, document or recognized text to the model provider.

Downloaded processing assets may remain in browser caches to speed up later use. Use your browser’s site-data controls to remove cached data; this may also erase saved settings and projects, so export important work first. Locally generated results remain in the current tool unless you explicitly save, download or transfer them. Automatic recognition can make mistakes and is not human review.

Connected Workflow AI and AI Workspaces

The dedicated AI writing, study, business and code-review workspaces follow the same visitor-owned provider model below. Generation sends the source material, context and selected settings to OpenRouter and the chosen model provider only after you choose Generate and acknowledge sharing. Copy Prompt works without a provider request. Inputs, API keys and the last five generated versions stay in the open component’s memory and are not automatically saved. Downloaded exports contain the result you choose to export, not the API key. Review sensitive information before sharing or exporting.

Node Workflow Studio Spaces optionally connects to OpenRouter using your own API key. When you run an AI node, its prompt and connected system instructions are sent directly from your browser to OpenRouter and the selected model provider. Their policies govern processing and retention, and usage is billed to your provider account. Your key stays in the open workspace memory: it is not stored in local storage, workflow files, Data Passport or BrowserTools servers. Disconnect or close the workspace to clear it. Loading the optional model catalog makes a public request to OpenRouter. Local text and data nodes do not send their inputs to an AI provider.

Files Passed Between Tools

Supported Open In Another Tool actions save one temporary file in this browser’s IndexedDB storage. The destination asks you to open the file before replacing its input. The file is not uploaded or included in a Data Passport backup. It is removed when opened, discarded or replaced by another handoff. Handoffs are eligible for 15 minutes; expired files are cleaned up the next time a handoff feature checks storage. Closing the tab alone does not immediately delete that stored file. Clearing this site’s browser data also removes it.

External Services

  • Live information: currency tools use exchange-rate providers; crypto tools use CoinGecko; fantasy tools use Sleeper and ESPN; AI pricing tools use a community price feed. These providers receive normal network information, including your IP address and requested resource.
  • DNS queries: DNS Record Inspector sends the domain and selected record type to Google DNS, Cloudflare DNS, or both only when you press Look Up. Those services receive your query and normal connection information. The port reference and MAC inspector operate locally after their reference files load.
  • Domain registration queries: RDAP & WHOIS Domain Intelligence sends the public domain you enter to rdap.org only when you press Run RDAP Lookup. That discovery service can redirect the request to the authoritative registry or registrar RDAP service. Those providers receive the queried domain and normal connection information. BrowserTools displays only their public response.
  • Weather and locations: location lookups send the address or place you enter to a geocoding provider. Weather requests send the selected coordinates and date to the forecast provider. See the tool’s source labels before using a private location.
  • Remote content: URL import features request the address you provide. Slang lookup can request community definitions from Urban Dictionary. External content is governed by its provider’s policies.
  • Fonts and libraries: some tools load Google Fonts, processing libraries or reference files from external providers. These requests expose standard connection details, but local processing does not require sending your document to those providers.
  • Device and sharing features: camera, microphone, screen capture and location features require browser permission. Peer-to-peer sharing may use a signaling service to establish a connection. Sharing transmits the selected content to the recipient.

Contact Messages

The contact and suggestion controls prepare a message in your email application. Nothing is delivered until you send that email. Your email provider processes it under its own terms. We use received contact details and messages to respond and investigate the request; avoid sending sensitive files you do not need us to see.

Hosting and Analytics

The hosting provider may keep access and security logs such as IP address, requested page, browser details and request time. On browsertools.ai, optional Google Analytics 4 loads only after you choose Accept Analytics. Declining does not restrict any tool. You can withdraw consent using Analytics Preferences in the footer. Local previews and copies on other hostnames do not load this tracker.

We use analytics to understand page popularity, visits and general device and regional usage so we can improve the site. Google receives standard connection information and uses first-party identifiers to measure visits. Our page-view integration sends known page names and paths, removes URL query strings and fragments, and reduces referring URLs to their origin. It does not intentionally send tool inputs, file contents, filenames, search terms, saved projects or contact details. Google Signals and advertising personalization are disabled in this integration. Favorites and recent tools remain browser-local; public popularity ordering is not yet a verified live traffic ranking.

Your analytics choice is saved on this device for up to 180 days and is not transferred by Data Passport. Analytics cookies are configured with a 180-day lifetime without automatic renewal. Withdrawing stops future collection by this integration and removes its accessible first-party cookies; it does not erase information already processed by Google. Google-side retention is governed by the Analytics property settings and Google’s policies; aggregate reports can be retained separately from event-level records. See Google’s partner-site data explanation and Privacy Policy, including international processing. Contact us with privacy or deletion requests.

Advertising and Cookies

Advertising is currently disabled in this build. If Google AdSense is enabled, third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies or similar identifiers to serve and measure ads based on visits to this and other websites.

Google’s advertising cookies allow Google and its partners to serve ads based on browsing activity. You can manage personalized advertising in My Ad Center and find additional industry choices at AboutAds. See how Google uses information from partner sites.

Where required, advertising must use an appropriate consent message and privacy controls, including a Google-certified consent platform for users in the EEA, UK and Switzerland. Those controls must be configured before advertising is activated. BrowserTools does not treat use of a calculator or agreement to these terms as advertising consent.

Your Choices

You can clear browser site data, revoke device permissions, decline optional external features, and export or delete saved work. For access, correction or deletion requests about information you sent by email, contact us. Rights depend on your location and the information held.
