What Is the AV Bars & Tone Studio?

An AV signal workspace with nine test-pattern families: SMPTE-style 75% bars, EBU-style bars, full-height 100% bars, grayscale steps, smooth ramp, checkerboard, PLUGE, geometry grid with aspect-check circle, and full-field colors. It includes HD/UHD/SD/portrait/square frames, setup presets, clean feed, safe-area guides, native PNG, stereo WAV at 44.1/48/96 kHz, channel/polarity routing and real-time WebM recording. Noise is an approximate filtered reference, not a calibrated spectrum.

How It Works

Choose a setup preset or configure the pattern and frame size. Custom Image in Quick Setup opens a local PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF or AVIF and provides fit, crop, stretch and matte controls; the decoded image is never uploaded. Fill display is the default fullscreen scaling: it removes all outer borders and uses the whole screen, stretching the frame if the display has a different aspect ratio. Choose Fit frame to preserve geometry with possible borders, or Fill & crop to preserve proportions while cropping. Use Clean feed to remove the label and guides. Audio routing supports left, right, both and opposite polarity. Changing audio settings stops playback until you press Play again. Open as many synchronized, resizable monitor windows as needed; each has a child-owned fullscreen handler so its button and F shortcut retain the direct user gesture browsers require. Fullscreen All attempts multi-display fullscreen where the browser permits it and otherwise directs the operator to approve fullscreen inside each monitor. Export at the selected native frame size or record a WebM and finish early when needed.

When to Use It

Use it for display alignment, AV routing identification, rehearsal files, edit slates, speaker checks and non-certified setup references. Use a calibrated hardware signal generator, waveform monitor and facility specification for regulated broadcast acceptance or measurement work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is The Tone A Calibrated Room Level?
No. The selected dBFS value controls digital amplitude. Actual acoustic SPL depends on the interface, amplifier, monitor gain, speaker response and room, so begin quietly and calibrate physical playback separately.
How Do I Remove The Fullscreen Black Border?
Leave Fullscreen / pop-out scaling on Fill display. This fills the entire screen regardless of frame size. Fit frame intentionally adds borders when the screen ratio differs; Fill & crop removes borders without stretching but crops edges. Exit with Esc or the keyboard-focusable exit control.
Can Every Pop-Out Enter Fullscreen At Once?
Fullscreen All uses the browser's multi-screen support when available. Browser security can require direct approval in each monitor window; every pop-out therefore also has its own Fullscreen button and F shortcut. If native fullscreen is blocked, the main preview fills the browser viewport as a fallback.
What Is Opposite-Polarity Audio For?
The right channel is the negative of the left. This can help identify routing and polarity issues, but it may cancel when summed to mono. It is not a normal program-delivery setting.
What Does WebM Export Contain?
It records the selected native-size canvas and optional routed reference audio in real time using the browser's supported VP8/VP9 and Opus encoder. Finish recording ends and downloads the current clip. Browser timing is not guaranteed frame-accurate.
Will My Display Stay Awake?
The fullscreen monitor can request a screen wake lock in supporting secure browsers. Operating-system policy, power settings or browser restrictions can still deny or release it. Exiting fullscreen releases the request.
