Tone Generator
Play pure test tones — pick a frequency, waveform and volume, or jump to musical notes and speaker-test presets.
What Is the Tone Generator?
The Tone Generator produces a continuous test tone in your browser using the Web Audio API. Set any frequency from 20 Hz to 20 kHz with a logarithmic slider or exact number, choose sine, square, triangle or sawtooth waveforms, and control the volume. Presets cover musical notes (C2 through B6) and common checks like A4 concert pitch, a 1 kHz reference, subwoofer and buzz tests, and a high-frequency hearing-limit tone. The nearest musical note and cent offset are always shown.
How It Works
Press Play Tone, then adjust frequency, waveform and volume live — the tone follows without restarting. Use the note preset to tune instruments or the quick references to test speakers.
When to Use It
Use it for tuning by ear, testing speakers and subwoofers for rattles, checking headphone channels, demonstrating waveforms, or informal high-frequency hearing checks.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is A Web Tone Accurate?
- The Web Audio API generates frequencies digitally at your device's sample rate, so pitch accuracy is excellent — what varies is your speaker's ability to reproduce it, especially below 60 Hz.
- Is This A Hearing Test?
- No — it is an informal check only. Volume, headphones and room noise all affect what you hear; see an audiologist for a real assessment.
