What Is the JSON Formatter & Minifier?

The JSON Formatter & Minifier lets you beautify, validate and minify JSON with clear parse errors. Open the workspace above to use its controls. No account or installation is required.

How It Works

Enter the values or content requested by the JSON Formatter & Minifier, choose the available options, and review the result. Where a tool offers a download or copy control, use it to keep your work. Live data, remote resources and some device features require an internet connection or browser permission.

When to Use It

Use the JSON Formatter & Minifier to beautify, validate and minify JSON with clear parse errors. Explore related developer tools for the next step in your workflow. Check units, source values and any stated limitations before relying on a result.

Step-by-Step Workflow

  1. Identify the shape. Decide whether the data is a list of records, a nested object or a table with headers. A flat spreadsheet cannot express every nested relationship without an agreed convention. Keep the original before flattening arrays or objects.
  2. Validate a small representative sample. Use JSON formatting to find syntax mistakes such as trailing commas or single-quoted keys. Include rows with commas inside quoted fields, embedded newlines, blank cells and non-English characters when testing CSV conversion.
  3. Protect identifiers and dates. Treat account numbers, postal codes and long IDs as text if their exact representation matters. Converting 00123 to a number loses its leading zeros. A spreadsheet may reinterpret a date-looking string using local settings; confirm the desired format with the recipient.
  4. Test the real import. Open the exported file in the destination, check row counts and column mappings, and inspect edge cases. Valid JSON syntax does not prove that the receiving application accepts the schema or the values.

Practical Example

Paste {"name":"Ada","active":true,"tags":["api","test"]} and select an indentation option to make the object easier to read. Minifying removes unnecessary whitespace; it does not shorten property names or compress a file like ZIP.

Check Your Result

  • Use double quotes around keys and strings. Remove comments and trailing commas: these are not valid JSON.
  • Formatting validates JSON syntax, not your application's required fields or data types. Use the JSON Schema Validator for those checks.
  • Preserve large identifiers as quoted strings. JavaScript numbers can lose integer precision above 9,007,199,254,740,991; duplicate object keys can also be overwritten during parsing.

Limitations & Privacy

This is a JSON formatter, not a JavaScript executor or a JSON-with-comments parser. Keep the original when exact numeric representation or duplicate-key detection matters.

Formatting runs in this browser. Remove API keys, passwords and personal data before copying the output into tickets, chats or other services. See the Privacy Policy for site-wide storage, optional analytics and external-service details.
