What Is the Batch File Renamer?

A safe filename planning workspace that changes names in a downloadable archive rather than touching originals. Combine name, extension, sequence and modified-date tokens with literal replacement and case rules.

How It Works

Choose files and a preset or naming pattern. Sort by filename, modified date or selection order, set sequence padding and review every proposed name. Resolve invalid names or case-insensitive collisions, then download the renamed ZIP and optional CSV name map.

When to Use It

Prepare numbered photos, project deliverables or dated archives without installing desktop software or granting write access to your original folder.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it rename originals?
No. It creates copies with the requested names inside a ZIP. No original file is changed or deleted.
Which pattern tokens work?
Use {name}, {ext}, {n} and {date}. The date is the modified date in UTC, not camera EXIF capture time. Replacement is literal and case-sensitive.
How are collisions handled?
Export is blocked until destination names are unique, including case-insensitive and Unicode-normalized comparisons. Limits: 300 files, 50 MB each, 200 MB total.
