Brick Calculator
Estimate bricks by modular brick-and-joint size, net wall area, courses, waste and unit cost.
What Is the Brick Calculator?
The Brick Calculator estimates masonry units from wall width and height after subtracting doors and windows. Unlike a fixed bricks-per-square-foot shortcut, it uses the entered brick face and mortar-joint dimensions, then adds waste and calculates courses, bricks per course and cost.
How It Works
Measure the wall and total openings, confirm the manufacturer's brick face dimensions and planned mortar joint, then enter waste and unit price. Use the order quantity as a planning takeoff and verify it against the bond pattern and drawings.
When to Use It
Use it for preliminary material ordering on straight brick walls. Corners, returns, arches, bond patterns, special units and field cuts need a project-specific masonry layout.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does Mortar Joint Size Affect The Count?
- Yes. The calculator treats each brick plus its horizontal and vertical joint as a modular face, so a larger joint reduces the nominal bricks per square foot.
- Are Mortar Bags Included?
- No. Mortar volume depends on joint depth, wall construction, unit frogs or cores and waste, so it should be estimated from the selected masonry system.
