What Is the Tile Calculator?

The Tile Calculator converts surface dimensions into a tile-module count using the actual tile width, height and grout joint. It subtracts openings, applies waste, rounds to full boxes and estimates cost from tiles per box and box price.

How It Works

Measure the tiled surface and openings, enter the tile's actual dimensions and planned joint, then add waste for cuts, breakage, pattern and spare stock. Enter the package count and price to produce a full-box takeoff.

When to Use It

Use it for preliminary floor and wall tile ordering on rectangular surfaces. Diagonal layouts, repeating patterns, niches, borders, batch matching and complex cuts may need a larger allowance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Grout Joint Size Change The Tile Count?
Yes. The calculator uses the tile plus joint as the repeating module, so the planned joint affects rows and coverage.
Why Can Purchased Tiles Exceed Tiles With Waste?
Tile is rounded to full boxes. The extra pieces can be retained for repairs and batch-matched replacements.
