Square Footage Calculator
Build a multi-room area schedule with shapes, cutouts, quantities, waste, material coverage, box counts and project cost.
What Is the Square Footage Calculator?
The Square Footage Calculator is a project area ledger rather than a one-room formula. Add rectangular, triangular and circular spaces, subtract openings or excluded areas, apply quantities and see each line in square feet or square meters. Material waste, package coverage and unit pricing turn the measured area into a purchase quantity and estimated cost.
How It Works
Choose the measurement system, name each space, select its shape and enter the labeled dimensions. Mark closets, columns or other exclusions as cutouts. The calculator totals the signed areas, applies the project waste allowance, rounds package quantities up to complete boxes and calculates cost from the selected price basis. Copy the summary or export the full room schedule as CSV.
When to Use It
Use it to estimate flooring, tile, carpet, turf, ceiling panels, room size, circular areas or any material purchased by area. Confirm field measurements and supplier coverage before ordering.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How Much Waste Should I Add?
- Simple layouts often use about 5% to 10%, while diagonal patterns, irregular rooms or materials with matching requirements may need more. Follow the installer and manufacturer guidance for the actual project.
- Why Are Boxes Rounded Up?
- Most packaged materials can only be purchased as complete boxes. The calculator divides the adjusted area by package coverage and rounds up to the next whole package.
- Can It Subtract Openings Or Cutouts?
- Yes. Set a row to Subtract and its calculated area will be removed from the project total. The summary never allows purchase area to fall below zero.
