3D Mesh Converter & Repair
Convert STL and OBJ meshes, remove common facet defects, normalize winding and export STL, OBJ or GLB locally.
What Is the 3D Mesh Converter & Repair?
The 3D Mesh Converter & Repair workspace opens STL or OBJ geometry locally, triangulates OBJ polygon faces, measures the source topology and runs a transparent cleanup pass. It can remove zero-area and duplicate facets, make connected shared-edge winding consistent, center the model, apply an explicit scale and export binary STL, ASCII STL, Wavefront OBJ or standards-based binary glTF/GLB.
How It Works
Drop an STL or OBJ file, compare its boundary, non-manifold and winding findings, then choose the cleanup actions, weld tolerance and scale. Apply the repair pass, inspect the isometric triangle projection and before/after ledger, select an output format and download the converted mesh plus an optional CSV, JSON or PDF report.
When to Use It
Use it for local format conversion, removing common duplicate or degenerate facets, normalizing connected triangle winding and preparing a model for inspection in another application. It is not a slicer or CAD reconstruction system and cannot infer missing surfaces, wall thickness, intended units, self-intersection fixes, manufacturing tolerances or whether a model is safe and printable.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Are Models Uploaded?
- No. Parsing, repair, projection, conversion and report generation run in the current browser session.
- Does Repair Guarantee A Printable Model?
- No. The repair pass addresses duplicate facets, zero-area facets and shared-edge orientation. Holes, self-intersections, thin walls, scale, units, clearances, supports and printer-specific constraints still require CAD and slicing review.
- What Happens To OBJ Materials?
- OBJ vertex positions and polygon faces are imported and triangulated. Texture coordinates, material libraries, smoothing groups and object-specific material assignments are not retained in STL or GLB output.
