When to Use It

Use it to get a general sense of whether your weight is in a healthy range for your height, or to track changes over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is BMI calculated?
BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². For imperial units the figures are converted to metric first. A BMI of 18.5–24.9 is generally considered the normal range.
Is BMI accurate for everyone?
No. It doesn't distinguish muscle from fat and isn't suitable for athletes, children, the elderly or during pregnancy. Treat it as a rough screening tool, not a diagnosis.
