Audio Compressor & Level Controller
Control audio dynamics, makeup gain and the final peak ceiling with a measured local mastering workspace.
What Is the Audio Compressor & Level Controller?
The Audio Compressor & Level Controller is a local dynamics bench with threshold, ratio, soft knee, attack, release, makeup gain and final sample-peak ceiling. It renders decoded PCM in the browser, shows the transfer curve and waveform, measures peak and RMS before and after processing, reports maximum and average gain reduction, and exports 16-bit, 24-bit or 32-bit float WAV plus CSV, TXT or PDF evidence.
How It Works
Open a browser-decodable audio file, start from a voice, dialogue, music-bus or peak-limiter preset, then adjust the dynamics controls. Render a local preview to audition and inspect measured levels before downloading the WAV. Makeup Gain provides controlled volume boosting; the final ceiling applies a transparent whole-result trim if the completed signal exceeds the selected sample-peak limit.
When to Use It
Use it to reduce level swings in podcasts, interviews, voiceover or music, add moderate makeup gain, control sample peaks and create an auditable WAV handoff. Critical broadcast loudness, inter-sample true peak, multiband dynamics and final mastering still require a calibrated audio workstation and the recipient's delivery specification.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is This Also A Volume Booster?
- Yes. Makeup Gain can raise the processed level by up to 36 dB, while the output ceiling prevents the completed sample peaks from exceeding the chosen limit. It does not restore clipped detail or guarantee a broadcast loudness target.
- What Does The Ceiling Do?
- After compression and makeup gain, the tool measures the highest decoded sample. If that peak exceeds the ceiling, it scales the complete result down just enough to fit. This is deterministic sample-peak control, not a look-ahead true-peak limiter.
- Why Is The Download A WAV?
- WAV preserves the newly processed PCM without adding another lossy codec stage. Use Audio Converter afterward when a compressed delivery copy is required.
