Metronome
Practice with a precise browser metronome featuring tap tempo, subdivisions, time signatures, accents and multiple click sounds.
What Is the Metronome?
Metronome schedules clicks on the browser’s audio timeline for steady practice. It supports tempos from 30 to 300 BPM, common and odd time signatures, quarter-note, eighth-note, triplet and sixteenth-note subdivisions, first-beat accents, three click sounds and volume control. A pendulum, measure counter and beat rail make the pulse easy to follow.
How It Works
Set the BPM directly, move the tempo slider, use a quick preset or tap the beat several times. Choose a time signature, subdivision and click sound, then press Start. The first beat of each measure can be accented or left even. Space starts and stops the clock when focus is outside a control, and the T key enters tap tempo. Your practice settings are remembered on this device.
When to Use It
Use it while learning an instrument, rehearsing difficult passages, checking a song tempo, practicing subdivisions, developing internal time or working through odd meters. Headphones are useful when playing an acoustic instrument over the click.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How accurate is the metronome?
- Clicks are placed ahead of time on the Web Audio clock, so normal layout and rendering work cannot pull them off the intended pulse. Device audio hardware still contributes a small fixed output latency.
- Can it accent the downbeat?
- Yes. Accent First Beat gives beat one a higher, stronger click. Turn it off for an even pulse.
- Which subdivisions are available?
- Quarter notes, eighth notes, triplets and sixteenth notes. Subdivision ticks are quieter than the main beat so the measure remains easy to hear.
- Does it upload or record audio?
- No. It creates the click locally in your browser and does not use a microphone, upload audio or require an account.
