Spreadsheet Compare & Reconciliation
Match CSV or XLSX records by key, inspect changed cells, and export a precise reconciliation report.
What Is the Spreadsheet Compare & Reconciliation?
A local data comparison workspace for two versions of an inventory, price list, roster or transaction export. Records match by a unique key rather than their position, so sorting differences do not create false changes. The results distinguish added, removed, changed and unchanged records and display before-and-after values for every changed column.
How It Works
Open or paste the before and after tables. For XLSX workbooks, choose the worksheet to compare. Select a unique ID column present in both sources. Adjust whitespace, letter-case and numeric-tolerance rules; optionally exclude columns that should not affect the comparison. Filter the reconciliation and export CSV, XLSX, JSON or a PDF reading copy.
When to Use It
Use it to review supplier price updates, reconcile inventory snapshots, check an exported roster, or audit a spreadsheet revision without uploading your source data. It compares records; it does not merge financial accounts or determine whether a transaction is correct.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How are duplicate keys handled?
- The comparison stops with a warning. A duplicate ID cannot be matched unambiguously without another key. Select a genuinely unique column or prepare a composite ID in your source spreadsheet.
- Are Excel formulas and formatting compared?
- No. The workbook reader uses stored cell values and cached formula results. It does not recalculate formulas or compare styles, charts, comments or macros. Open and recalculate the workbook in Excel before exporting if formulas changed.
- What does numeric tolerance mean?
- With tolerance 0, values compare as text after your normalization rules. A positive tolerance treats plain numeric values within that absolute difference as equal. Currency symbols and grouped numbers are not silently converted. IDs always remain text.
- What are the limits?
- Each input supports 10 MB, 20,000 data rows and 100 columns. XLSX expansion is bounded. Legacy XLS and encrypted workbooks are unsupported. PDF is an image-based report for up to 500 filtered records; CSV, XLSX and JSON support the full filtered result.
