What Is the Bond Value Calculator?

The Bond Value Calculator discounts every coupon and principal payment at the selected market yield. It reports clean theoretical price, current yield, approximate yield-to-maturity context, Macaulay duration, modified duration and estimated price sensitivity. A yield scenario table shows how the bond's value may change when market rates move.

How It Works

Enter face value, coupon rate, years to maturity, coupon frequency and current market yield. If relevant, include a market purchase price for comparison. Review the premium or discount, duration and price estimates under lower and higher yields, then inspect the trace to verify the cash-flow timing.

When to Use It

Use it to understand a quoted fixed-rate bond, compare coupon and market yield, estimate interest-rate sensitivity, or learn how maturity and payment frequency affect theoretical value.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does a bond price fall when yield rises?
Existing fixed payments become less attractive when new market yields are higher, so their present value falls. The reverse generally occurs when yields decline.
What does duration measure?
Duration summarizes the timing of discounted cash flows and provides a first-order estimate of price sensitivity to a small yield change. It is not the bond's remaining maturity.
Does theoretical value include credit risk?
Only through the market yield you enter. Default risk, liquidity, embedded options, accrued interest, taxes and transaction costs can cause an actual price to differ materially.
