What Is the Correlation Calculator?

The Correlation Calculator measures two forms of association from paired observations. Pearson r describes linear association; Spearman rho applies Pearson correlation to average ranks and can describe monotonic association even when the scale is not linear.

How It Works

Paste corresponding X and Y series or load the first two numeric columns of a CSV file. Review both coefficients, the coefficient of determination, scatter plot and method notes.

When to Use It

Use it for exploratory statistics, coursework and quick checks of whether two numeric variables move together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Correlation Prove Causation?
No. A high coefficient can be caused by confounding, selection, common trends or chance and says nothing by itself about which variable causes the other.
How Are Ties Handled In Spearman Correlation?
Tied values receive their average rank before the correlation is calculated.
