What Is the Fraction Calculator?

The Fraction Calculator performs exact rational arithmetic without converting the inputs to floating-point numbers. It accepts proper fractions, improper fractions, mixed numbers and negative values, then reports the simplified fraction, mixed-number form, decimal and percentage. The calculation sheet also shows the common denominator, reciprocal or cross-products used by the selected operation.

How It Works

Enter an optional whole number plus a numerator and denominator for each operand. Choose Add, Subtract, Multiply or Divide. The calculator normalizes each mixed number, performs the operation with exact integers, reduces the result by its greatest common divisor and displays the worked stages. Swap the operands, copy a result or save a recent calculation for local reference.

When to Use It

Use it for homework checks, recipe scaling, measurements, construction math or any calculation where an exact fraction is more useful than a rounded decimal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can It Calculate Mixed Numbers?
Yes. Enter the whole-number and fractional parts separately. Put a negative sign on the whole number for a negative mixed value; for a proper or improper fraction without a whole number, put the sign on the numerator.
Does It Round Fractions?
No. Fraction arithmetic and simplification use exact integers. Only the decimal and percentage views are rounded for display.
Why Is A Zero Denominator Invalid?
Division by zero is undefined, so a fraction with zero in the denominator cannot represent a number. The calculator identifies the affected input instead of silently changing it.
