D&D Character Sheet Creator & Dice Workspace
Build an editable 5e character dossier with ability checks, skills, HP, session resources, spell slots, inventory, dice rolls and portable JSON or PDF sheets.
What Is the D&D Character Sheet Creator & Dice Workspace?
An independent character worksheet and at-the-table dice workspace. Track your character across eight focused sections, calculate core modifiers and keep a local library of up to 50 characters. This is not a full character-legality engine or a virtual tabletop.
How It Works
Use Build Character for a class-oriented standard array or 27-point buy, upload a square-cropped portrait, enter your character details and proficiencies, then fill in combat, spells, equipment and notes using your chosen rules. Session provides quick checks, health controls, manual concentration/exhaustion reminders and custom resource counters with selectable rest recovery. Campaign Companion adds a campaign name, XP, quest checkboxes, a single-size hit-dice pool with spend/heal and manual recovery, plus a concentration-DC planning helper. The dice tray links to the dedicated 3D dice workspace. Undo/Redo reverses edits and a recoverable draft protects interrupted work. Save Character stores a local copy; Export JSON is the portable editable backup. Print PDF creates an original printable snapshot. Click a skill or ability to roll its modifier.
When to Use It
Prepare a homebrew or 5e character, track damage and spell-slot use at a session, make a printable dossier, or keep portable character backups without an account.
Step-by-Step Workflow
- Enter the character your table actually uses. Use Character for identity, class labels, level and campaign rules. In Abilities & Skills, enter scores and choose saving-throw and skill proficiencies. Standard Array and the 4d6 option are starting methods, not character-creation approval. Confirm your edition, allowed sources and table rules with the game organizer.
- Fill in combat and spell information. Set maximum/current HP, temporary HP, armor class, speed and initiative adjustments from your sheet. Add attacks with their to-hit bonus and dice notation. Enter spell slot maxima and prepared spells manually. Changing a class label or level does not automatically grant features, spells or extra HP.
- Use Session while playing. The Session dashboard brings health, quick checks, prepared spells and attacks together. Add Resources & Charges for limited-use abilities or consumables. Assign each a manual, short-rest or long-rest recovery rule. Rest & Recovery previews which resource counters will reset; HP and spell-slot recovery require your explicit choices.
- Protect your campaign history. Save Character creates a named local library entry. Export JSON is the editable portable backup; Print PDF is a reading/printing snapshot. Duplicate creates a separate draft for a level-up experiment. Undo/Redo reverses recent edits. If a session is interrupted, a recoverable draft may be available the next time you open the tool.
Practical Example
A character with 10 current HP and 4 temporary HP takes 6 damage. The tool removes the 4 temporary HP first, leaving 8 current HP. A Strength score of 15 gives a +2 ability modifier; a level-5 character has a +3 proficiency bonus, applied only where selected.
Check Your Result
- Check proficiency and expertise against your source sheet rather than enabling every skill.
- Roll a known attack and confirm the bonus and dice notation before using shortcuts during play.
- After importing a backup, confirm identity, HP, resources, spell slots and inventory, then save it as a library entry.
Limitations & Privacy
This is an independent manual worksheet, not a complete character-legality engine, paid rulebook library or virtual tabletop. Concentration, exhaustion and conditions are reminders; penalties are not automatically applied. Recovery varies by class and table. The library holds up to 50 saved characters.
Characters, recoverable drafts and inventory are saved locally. Clearing browser data removes them. PDF is not an editable backup; keep JSON copies outside browser storage. See the Privacy Policy for site-wide storage, optional analytics and external-service details.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Does selecting a class automatically build a legal character?
- No. Class features, species traits, multiclass rules, HP progression, armor and spell-slot maxima must be entered manually from your chosen rules. Level updates the proficiency bonus, but does not silently grant class features.
- Are characters saved to a server?
- No. The library lives in this browser. Clearing site data deletes it. Export JSON backups before switching devices; imported characters become new drafts rather than overwriting an existing save.
- What rules content is included?
- Core ability, skill, proficiency and spellcasting calculations reference the freely licensed SRD 5.2.1. Paid rulebooks, official artwork and proprietary character databases are not included. This independent tool is not affiliated with Wizards of the Coast.
- Is the PDF editable?
- The PDF is a high-resolution image-based print snapshot with a summary sheet and paginated details. Use JSON to reopen and edit your character, or the text export for machine-readable notes.
