Number & Words Converter
Convert numbers to written English or turn written numbers back into digits, including decimals and negatives.
What Is the Number & Words Converter?
The Number & Words Converter works in both directions: 1,234 becomes "one thousand two hundred thirty-four," while the written form converts back to 1,234. It handles large numbers, negatives and decimals and processes each line independently. Everything runs in your browser.
How It Works
Choose a direction and type or paste one value per line. In Number To Words mode, commas are ignored and decimal digits are read after "point." In Words To Number mode, enter standard English number words through quintillions.
When to Use It
Use it to write amounts on cheques and invoices, spell out figures in legal or formal documents, create accessible content, or double-check how a number reads aloud.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How big a number can it convert?
- Up to the quintillions (21 digits). Larger values return a friendly error.
- Does it handle decimals and negatives?
- Yes. Decimals are read digit by digit after the word "point," and negative numbers start with "negative."
