What Is the Matrix Calculator?

The Matrix Calculator is a compact linear-algebra workspace with independent one-to-eight row and column dimensions for Matrix A and Matrix B. It supports compatible rectangular addition, subtraction and multiplication, along with transpose and reduced row-echelon form; determinant and inverse are available when the selected matrix is square. Partial pivoting and optional row-operation notes make the result auditable.

How It Works

Set the row and column dimensions for each matrix, choose an operation and edit the entries. Fit B To Operation repairs incompatible binary dimensions, presets build identity or zero matrices, and the complete worksheet exports to PDF.

When to Use It

Use it for algebra coursework, graphics and engineering checks, transformations, Markov-chain exercises and small matrix calculations where seeing the exact input matters.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Does A Matrix Have No Inverse?
Only square matrices can be inverted, and a square matrix is singular when its rows or columns are linearly dependent. The inverse operation reports those conditions instead of returning unstable numbers.
Can It Multiply Rectangular Matrices?
Yes. The number of columns in Matrix A must equal the number of rows in Matrix B. Fit B To Operation can set a compatible size automatically.
