System of Equations Solver
Solve linear systems with two to eight custom-named unknowns and distinguish unique, dependent and inconsistent results with elimination steps.
What Is the System of Equations Solver?
The System of Equations Solver converts two to eight equations into an augmented matrix and applies Gaussian elimination. Every unknown can be renamed, and those names propagate through coefficient labels, rendered equations, solutions and exports. A rank check correctly classifies the result as one unique solution, infinitely many dependent solutions or an inconsistent system with no solution.
How It Works
Choose the number of unknowns, edit their names, enter each coefficient and constant, and review the solution, reduced augmented matrix and optional elimination log. Example buttons demonstrate all three classifications.
When to Use It
Use it to check algebra work, learn elimination and solve small linear models with meaningful variable names.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Why Does It Say Infinitely Many Solutions?
- At least one equation is dependent on the others, leaving one or more free variables. The reduced matrix rank is smaller than the number of unknowns.
- Can It Solve Nonlinear Equations?
- No. Products of variables, powers, roots and trigonometric terms require nonlinear methods.
