Stoichiometry Calculator
Audit a user-balanced reaction, identify limiting reactants and excess material, and calculate theoretical and percent yields in grams or moles.
What Is the Stoichiometry Calculator?
The Stoichiometry Calculator audits the atom counts in a structured reaction supplied by the user, then uses the entered coefficients and measured reactant amounts to identify limiting reactants, consumed and excess material, theoretical product yields and optional percent yield. Its local formula parser supports element symbols, nested groups and hydrates and reports molar-mass and balance errors without silently continuing.
How It Works
Start from an editable example or add reactant and product rows, enter the coefficients from a balanced equation and inspect the atom audit. Supply one or more reactants in grams or moles, mark only genuinely unlimited reagents as excess, then review the limiting reagent, branch results and optional actual yield before exporting the worksheet.
When to Use It
Use it for chemistry education, calculation checking and preliminary lab worksheets after the reaction equation and substances are known. Purity, solution concentration, competing reactions, equilibrium, kinetics, phase behavior, measurement uncertainty and laboratory hazards are not modeled.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does It Balance Chemical Equations Automatically?
- No. You enter the coefficients. The tool independently audits every element and blocks yield calculations when the atom counts do not balance.
- Which Atomic Weights Are Used?
- Molar masses come from BrowserTools's bundled periodic-table data based on standard element values. Real samples, isotopic composition and reported significant figures can require a different value.
