What Is the Drywall Calculator?

The Drywall Calculator calculates wall area from a room's perimeter and height, optionally includes the ceiling, subtracts entered openings and converts the net coverage into 4-foot-wide sheets of the selected length. Waste and per-sheet price produce a purchasing count and cost.

How It Works

Enter room dimensions and the combined area of doors and windows, select the planned board length and decide whether the ceiling is included. Add waste for cuts and layout, then download the takeoff.

When to Use It

Use it for straightforward room material planning. Board orientation, staggered joints, offcut reuse, rated assemblies, unusual wall shapes and local code can change the sheet schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I Subtract Doors And Windows?
Yes when the combined opening area is meaningful, but retaining a modest waste allowance helps cover cuts and damaged sheets.
Does It Include Joint Compound And Screws?
No. Fastener spacing, framing, finish level and joint layout determine those quantities.
