What Is the PDF Metadata Remover?

The PDF Metadata Remover shows the document information a PDF carries with it — title, author, subject, keywords, the software that created it, and creation and modification timestamps — then produces a cleaned copy with those fields cleared and the embedded XMP metadata stream deleted. The file is read and rebuilt entirely in your browser, so the document never leaves your device.

How It Works

Drop a PDF and the tool lists every populated metadata field it finds, and notes when an XMP metadata stream is present. Click Remove Metadata & Download for a scrubbed copy. The visible content, images, page order and bookmarks are untouched.

When to Use It

Use it before sharing a PDF externally — resumes, reports, quotes and legal documents often reveal the author's name, employer or editing software in metadata without anyone noticing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does This Change The Document Content?
No. Only the document information dictionary and the XMP metadata stream are cleared. Pages, text, images and attachments are copied through unchanged.
Is The File Uploaded Anywhere?
No. The PDF is parsed and rebuilt with a JavaScript PDF library running locally in this tab. Closing the page removes everything.
Why Do The Timestamps Show A 1970 Date Afterward?
The PDF format requires timestamp fields to hold a value, so the tool sets them to the Unix epoch — a recognizable placeholder that reveals nothing about when you actually worked on the document.
Does It Remove Text I Redacted With A Black Box?
No — drawing a box over text does not delete the text underneath, and this tool does not alter page content. Use proper redaction before relying on it.
