What Is the SMPTE Timecode Calculator & Drop-Frame Converter?

A local post-production timing desk for turning timecode labels into frame counts, calculating signed durations, applying frame offsets and translating a source position to another frame rate by elapsed time or frame identity.

How It Works

Choose the source rate, enter Start and End timecodes, and review the exact frame labels, elapsed seconds and signed duration. Apply an optional frame offset, then choose a target rate and whether conversion preserves elapsed time or the source frame count. Drop-frame validation rejects labels that do not exist.

When to Use It

Use it to check edit notes, convert delivery markers, calculate segment lengths or translate timing between offline and delivery rates. Confirm project start time, rate and drop-frame convention before using results in a conform.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Drop-Frame Remove Video Frames?
No. It skips selected timecode numbers so 29.97 or 59.94 timing stays close to clock time; picture frames are not removed.
What Does Preserve Elapsed Time Mean?
The source frame position is converted to seconds using its actual rate, then rounded to the nearest frame at the target rate.
Can It Replace A Conform Tool?
No. It calculates labels and durations but does not inspect media cadence, pull-up/pull-down, variable frame rate or edit metadata.
