GPX Route Studio
Inspect GPX distance, elevation and duration, trim private endpoints, simplify tracks, and export GPX, CSV or GeoJSON.
What Is the GPX Route Studio?
A local GPX 1.1 track and route workspace with geometry preview, distance and elevation analysis, point trimming and Douglas-Peucker simplification.
How It Works
Open a GPX file, inspect its point count and route statistics, trim recorded points from either endpoint, and set a simplification tolerance. Export the adjusted route as GPX, CSV or GeoJSON.
When to Use It
Review activity recordings, prepare route data for another application or remove some endpoint samples before sharing. Always inspect the resulting geometry because point trimming is not a guaranteed privacy radius.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does this show a street basemap?
- No. The offline geometry preview avoids sending coordinates to a tile provider. Export GeoJSON for use in a mapping application when a basemap is needed.
- How is distance calculated?
- Consecutive latitude and longitude points use the haversine distance on a spherical Earth model. It is suitable for route estimates but not survey-grade measurement.
- Can simplification change distance?
- Yes. Removing intermediate points can shorten curves and remove elevation detail. Start with a small tolerance and compare the statistics.
